Ryan Adams DOT comI first heard of "Ryan Adams" (no, that's not a typo -- this is not the Canadian pop star) in 2002 while searching the 'net for "oasis" and "cover."  I found an mp3 of him performing a live version of Wonderwall and at the time, thought it was just "ok."  It reminded me of Howie Day, but I didn't consider it anything spectacular.  Soon after th, Noel Gallagher announced that after a 4 year break, Wonderwall was returning to Oasis' live set.  Why, do you ask, was Oasis bringing this song back after so long?  Apparently, Noel was inspired by the Ryan Adams' cover version on the double-disc album, Love Is Hell.  On Noel's recommendation alone, I rushed out and bought Love Is Hell.  I gave it a few listens, ripped Wonderwall to my iPod, then put it on the shelf.  A while later, I bought Adams' album Rock'n'Roll based on several positive reviews.  Again, I liked it, but it didn't hold my attention.

In 2005, though, Ryan Adams (& The Cardinals) released THREE studio albums -- the sheer moxie of such an effort caught my ear yet again, and this time was the charm.  If mp3s had grooves or flimsy black tape, my copies of Jacksonville City Nights and Cold Roses would have been worn out years ago.

In any event, I checked out his website tonight to see if he has any tour dates or new albums coming out.  The main theme playing when you visit the site is an original tune about, what else -- visiting ryan-adams.com...

After navigating through the bizarre dashboard, I came across THIRTEEN new online albums under various aliases and genres.  They were just released this December and most of these songs are very short -- but again, the sheer volume and quality of the work he's putting out is worth a listen.  If you can navigate your way through the site, I highly recommend listening to "The ****"'s 5 star LP, "Hillbilly Joel."  Half of the tracks start with the word "Drunk" and there's even a song about Billy Joel wrecking his car.  Genius...
