Sports GE Smith and the Browns

This weekend I traveled to Cleveland, OH to visit my family and to watch the Browns/Bengals game. My game ticket shows just how sad things have become in Cleveland sports: the "marquee" player highlighted on the ticket was (cue trumpets): Phil Dawson, the placekicker!!! Now nothing against Phil, but I imagine that even in Cincinnati they can come up with someone better to put on the tickets.

So once we got to the game, I noticed that between plays or after scores, the jumbotron would show this guy wearing a hooded sweatshirt jamming to "It's a Browns Town," a classic-rock-ish song I'd never heard before. I recognized him immediately from all those years of staying up late to watch Saturday Night Live in the early '90s -- it was G. E. Smith, or as the "You Like-a da juice" guys called him, "the blonde haired guy with the guitar." I've never seen a classic rock band jamming on the sidelines of a football game, but it beat the heck out of hearing "Who Let The Dogs Out?" and "We Will Rock You" every 10 minutes. The PA would still occasionally blare some crappy Eminem or Usher song, but everytime something big happened, they'd cue "The G. E. Smith Band" and the whole place would really start rocking. Does anyone know the history behind this? Is Smith from Cleveland? Maybe team owner Randy Lerner is a late 80s-early 90s SNL fan? Any chance Dana Carvey will join the organization?

Well, GE is Lebanese, so I think there's a good chance he's from Cleveland.

Here's another odd bit of trivia: GE Smith was married to Gilda Radner for a "brief period!??!"

I went to clevelandbrowns.com to search for "Browns Town," the song GE Smith was playing, but the search box limits your search to 10 characters or less, so all I could search for was "Browns Tow."
