Ron Reagan, Jr., from last night's Democratic Convention:
"How'd you like to have your own personal biological repair kit standing by at the hospital? Sound like magic? Welcome to the future of medicine." I'm sure the idea of a "personal biological repair kit" appeals to some, but that line in particular made me sick. Growing human body parts in a lab, putting them on ice, storing them for easy access... I always imagined these ghoulish practices taking place in a cold, mechanical future where human empathy & respect for life has completely eroded -- not within the next 50 years! Thoughts?
And how badass was Barak Obama? I must say, the man certainly exceeded my expectations. What struck me, though, were the shots of Hilary Clinton during his speech -- she had this far off, "evil genius" smile. She was literally salivating in the box seats, picturing Obama as her '08 running mate. If Hilary in '08 was a shoe-in before, that Hilary-Obama would be unstoppable... |

I don't know, I just don't see what is so bad about it. I guess this is what makes me a Liberal Libertarian... I figure, you can build prosthetic limbs, you can put on eye glasses, you can use a mechanical device to assure the correct pace and frequency with the beating of your heart, how is using generated human body parts that your body will accept as a part of its own *more* mechanical than using machines to perform the same tasks? I feel that respect for life is the very reason why stem cell research is necessary... but I guess it really comes down to your definition of life vs. mine.
And watching Hillary talk the other day and also watching Bill talk. If Hillary in 08 has any chance, she needs a little coaching from Bill. He is amazing at speaking, simply amazing. He could punch someone in the face and then immediatly make them not only think it was necessaty but make them partially think they were responsible for it and that in fact Bill is their best friend for doing it. |
