From the "I wish I'd known about this before I did my Christmas shopping" department:

"Microsoft commissioned a set of four fun songs about Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition from a band called Press the Green Button. Snappy vocals, a modern beat, and soothing melodies make these four songs delightful to listen to. Download one or more of them today to hear the band's vision for the future."

So I met the Fockers this weekend... and I left the theater wanting to punch someone, especially whoever dreamt up DeNiro's character. The only thing that I really got a kick of was that Dustin Hoffman calls his son by his nickname, "Gay," which is of course the worst possible nickname for a guy named Gaylord.

The movie was definitely funny and the actors all did excellent work (even though Owen Wilson drives me nuts) but it existed further outside of reality than the Spongebob movie. I'm glad I never saw the first film, 'cause it looked like the scenarios were even more absurd in that one with the polygraph, etc.

Has anyone else seen this yet?

If you haven't heard, Tim Burton is doing a film adaptation of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory starring Johnny Depp. When I first heard this I cringed because I thought, "Why would he make that movie? Didn't they do that 20 years ago?." But when I started thinking about it, I remembered that there was a Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory film that sorta resembled the book -- but no, they never really have made this film.

The book was excellent (and sequel was even cooler) but the movie got it all wrong, from "Cheer up Charlie" to "The Candyman" to Gene Wilder's spooky-as-hell "There is no earthly way of knowing, which direction we are going." Willy Wonka was a great film in its way, but just like the original Freaky Friday (not the Lindsay Lohan one), the details got all twisted up on the way to Hollywood.

Hey all, this is Jerry's bro Jeff. Who saw the NEW christmas SOUTHPARK? Now don't get me wrong, I've always been a huge SOUTHPARK fan and am not really offended by much of anything. But C'MON!!! Sacrificial Animal Blood Orgies and Anal Abortions might be taking it just a little too far. Cartman's alter ego Jay Lo serving Ben Affleck was one thing, but let's be real now, christmas animals and orgies just don't belong together, thats just wrong.

Does anyone not have that Amazon.com Visa card yet? I've started using it to control my DVD & music budget because every dollar you spend on the card earns points toward items at Amazon.com. If you sign up now, you get an awesome 0% APR and $20. Plus, if you're approved you'll earn me a nice referral fee to help pay for Shiny D.

A Refund policy, thats what.

In a swift move, MLB posted a refund policy on teh official website for the Washington Nationals. We were so close, yet so far away. I figured Cropp was playing the old Good Cop Bad Cop with Williams to get DC to lessen the deal, but it looks like DC never had its hand in the good cop bad cop scenario. So, Sorry DC, Looks like the "LasVegas Nationals" or the "Dulles Corridors" are coming soon, I can't say that I'm surprised, I just really hope things decide to change for the better.

Perhaps we can't prove if she's had a booby job or not, but here is evidence that her T-Mobile Sidekick has been augmented.

Also suspect evidence that she talked with or at least looked at Paris Hilton. And non-evidence that she's heard of Hello Kitty.

Blockbuster is Dropping late fees. Instead, if you don't bring something back that will automatically sell you the movie minus the rental fee? Don't they buy their movies, or at least value them, much much higher than they actually sell for? So would this actually still be a late charge? I guess its kind of cool, but not really.

A few of us were having a debate at the office regarding the origins of Kwanzaa, a holiday I've always suspected (but have never confirmed) is about as bogus & flimsy as Sweetest Day or Christmas II.

So I did a little research, and according to the link below, Kwanzaa was invented in 1966 by a black militant in Los Angeles. Its customs and lingo lack historical perspective and are clearly contrived, much like some of Joseph Smith's claims in the book of Mormon (Smith claimed that ancient Indians rode horses, for instance, which were actually brought to this country by Spaniards). Kwanzaa requires the use of maize to celebrate the ancient African harvest, but unless the ancient Navajo took a canoe to Kenya, Africans wouldn't have never seen or tasted maize in their lifetimes.

So why has Kwanzaa become an obligatory "best wishes" holiday in "Chrismahannukwanzaa" newsroom signoffs nationwide? White guilt? Great P.R.? Holiday shopping lobbyists?

In my younger days, I observed that adults seemed to have a really confusing addiction to a hot, bitter drink called "coffee." I'd tasted it once or twice and couldn't understand why someone would want a cup or two of such a horrible drink every morning. I decided that when I grew up, I wouldn't be a coffee drinker.

All went to plan through high school, college and even the workplace -- until I was about 23. Up until that point, I'd managed to work about a year or so without having the slightest temptation to drink the java. But then one morning I was working on about 4 hours of sleep and was searching for ANYTHING to help me wake up. I decided to give coffee a try, opting for a large cup of Hazelnut. Now 3 years later, I have a 20 oz. travel mug full of coffee on the ride to work every morning and then another cup or two once I get in.

Where is this story going, you ask? Don't worry, I'm getting to the point.

A few weeks ago a morning meeting (w/ free coffee) was cancelled after I got to the office. I was FURIOUS! "Don't they know I skipped my coffee mug this morning because I was expecting to have Starbucks at the office?" I thought. After acting like an idiot for a few minutes, I took a step back and realized that I was definitely reliant on that stupid black beverage and decided to try a little experiment starting this Tuesday -- no coffee.

Tuesday was pretty rough, bad headaches, extreme irritation. This morning (Wednesday) I haven't had any headaches, but I do feel VERY grouchy. This Friday we have another Starbucks meeting -- but will I even last until then? And once Friday comes, can I actually say "No" to the free mocha???

I've actually considered buying a bag of decaf to act as a placebo. But isn't that like drinking non-alcoholic beer? I mean, no one really drinks decaf because they like the taste of coffee, do they?
