I was looking through the google results and came accross some SVG chat log with Mr. Jibbering Jim talkin smack about the real Shiny Donkey.

On 9/6/04 he wrote:
11:58:07 btw, good news everyone the shiny-donkey site has hammered the shinydonkey site in google, in fact even the chatlogs have gone above them!

Apparently Google ranking is far more important than a decently designed and well used website?

Also, one a few days later another of the Shiny dash Donkey lovers writes:
07:29:21 Jerry is stealing Tom's sausage....

Now those are obvious fighting words (or a recounting of what was actually happening in front of him at that time). I have no proof that he was talking about Jerry as in the owner of the real Shiny Donkey website... But I am going to at least say he was.

Personally, I think being ranked in the top 5 on google is plenty good, but I would love to get this site up to #1 over the Shiny crap Donkey site.

Jerry, I know of one more thing you can try in order to get your ranking bumped up. You need to put the link back on the top header graphic, however you need to do two things. Split the image into two images. Make the left hand side link to http://www.shinydonkey.com/shinydonkey.aspx, and that file will just be a copy of the main blog page. Then make the right side link to http://www.shinydonkey.com/shiny-donkey.aspx, and again have that page simply be a scrape or duplicate of the main blog. It is important that it is actually a page on its own, not just a redirect. This should at least get you above the Chat Logs.

I have always been a Tivo "evangelist," converting numerous friends & family to the Tivo lifestyle. But Tivo is going to have to walk a fine line here... I think they're already positioned to be the AOL of DVR technology and that over the next 5-10 years they'll die a slow death to cheaper & superior competitors. If Tivo oversteps their bounds with this advertising garbage even a little bit, the ship is going to sink fast.

There's a new release of MySQL (already out I believe) which allows for stored procs and clustering among other things. I'm told that this site is using MySQL. So what interface are you using to hit MySQL and how do you like it?

Ok, I received my notification email that deposits are now being accepted for full season ticket plans only for hte 2005 Washington Nationals baseball season. The deposit must be in by 11/24/04, and is $300 per seat. I would love to get tickets, but I don't want to go it alone. So, who's interested in splitting up 2 season tickets? I think I am interested in around 10-20 games per season of the 81. My preference is to get the infield box seats ($40 per seat) or baseline box ($35 per seat). This comes out to between $6,480 and $5,670 per season. Obviously way too much to spend on my own, I am looking to spend somewhere around $1,000 tops, so 10-15 games. Basically we need about 5-6 people with the same stupid enthusiasm... or we can just buy the tickets off of ebay. Everyone who cares, let me know what you think.

*Addition* Knowing that RFK is basically the same setup as the old Riverfront Stadium in Cinci, and also the old 3 Rivers in Pitts., the seats I mentioned are pretty much the only really good ones in the park.

I've been using Microsoft Visual SourceSafe 6.0c with Visual Studio .NET 2003 and am running into the same ol' silly problems I had back when I used VSS with Cold Fusion.

Is anyone out there still using VSS as their source control / team file management solution? I'd be really interested in hearing if you've found better tools or if you simply don't have trouble with VSS by following some specific best practices.

Apparently in the town hall format presidential debate with John Kerry, when W. Bush said something about "The Internets," he wasn't confused, he was just speaking in reference to the technology that had not yet been fully disclosed. My apologies, Mr. President, for openly mocking your statement which I mistakenly assumed was simply uninformed, as it is, I am the uninformed party in this debate.

In other news...

Now that Skynet is no longer just for the movies... When do we all die?

Two things you probably didn't know about SMIL, the obscure HTML-ish language that I've never really used or seen other than on that one collapsable menu:

Manalee has released SMOX, a SMIL editing suite.

SMIL is actually pronounced "Smile." You'd think they could have come up with an "E" word to tack onto the end of the acronym... But then, I hear "GIF" is correctly pronounced "JIF" and if that's true, GIF easily beats out SMIL for the worse acronym prize.

Well, it will come down to Ohio. As I see it, pretty much no matter what, Ohio will be the deciding vote to determine our next president, and I must say, if John Kerry or George Bush could have guarenteed a Bengals/Browns Super Bowl matchup (I don't care about divisions or anything here, just a guarentee), and Indians/Reds World Series next year, it looks like that person would have taken the white house without any problem.

Right now Bush is edging Kerry with 51% of the vote to Kerry's 48%, however, Cuyahoga County which is heavily Kerry is at only 67% of precincts reporting. Basically, Kerry could come away with an additional 200K+ votes from this remainaing lot to Bush's 100K, making this a virtual dead heat! Drudge is reporting that Bush was told of his victory in Ohio at 10:30pm, when he had a comfortable 5% lead, that lead has dwindled to just 2% now with roughly 25% of the precincts in Ohio still to report. This could be a while...

But the main thing I see is WTF is up with Tuscarawas and Williams County??? Polls closed how many hours ago? And you are still at 0% reported? Who runs those places, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Just waiting to the last minute to drop their tens of ones of votes on everyone? Seriously, can we vote them out of Ohio for being jackasses?

Coming to you live from DonkeyD headquarters in Alexandria, VA, where Bull is preparing his concession speech for the '04 Presidential Election, it is a somber time here as what was expected to be a serious run for the White House is looking as though it will end without the receipt of a single Electoral Vote for Bull. Early Exit polling reveals across the country that Bull has received only 0.000015 percent of the vote, incidentally the same percentage of likely voters who are female and have had births of triplets or greater. It appears that the basic flaw in Bull's campaign of "I will have sex with you if you vote for me" actually hurt his chances of being elected, as it ended up killing 95% of the registered "Big Penis Lovers" party. Oh, here comes Bull to give his speech, let's see what he has to say....

Bull - "F@%k it!.... Who's wasted... wooooo!!!!!"

There you have it folks, looks like despite his apparent loss, Bull is ready for a night out partying, regrettably I think his running mate RAM is not taking it as well, as he has been in the corner not speaking to anyone since the campaign started just over a year ago, back to you Jer...

Oh behalf of the entire group of all contributors here at Shiny Donkey, as well as the Republican owner of the website, I would like to take a moment to officially call the results of the election days and perhaps weeks before the actual results are official. Shiny Donkey.com would like to officially congratulate George Bush on the well executed and hard fought election and his ultimate defeat to his competitor John Kerry.

Congratulations John Kerry on your election in the 2004 Presidential Race. You heard it here first at Shiny Donkey. President Bush should be calling you any moment to congratulate you. I mean seriously, did you expect Bush to win when Bull is the one backing Kerry? I think not!

I suspect, based on other reading, that the permissions have nothing to do with the AD server side, and everything to do with the unfortunate fact that MS decided to implement System.DirectoryServices on top of the misbegotten ADSI, which wants to do stupid things like scribble all over the local machine's registry.

There is simply no reason to require an ASP.NET application to run fully trusted just to be able to issue some LDAP queries, if you've already authenticated yourself to the LDAP server!

I tend to agree that Sharepoint sucks. Using it is like closing your eyes, holding your breath and spinning around for thirty seconds. When your done you dont know where you are, you are very dizzy, and feel like you might throw up.

I might create something in one place, but cant delete it or rename it there. After 15 minutes of searching, I cant find the same tool I used yesterday to do one thing or another. Its like that house in 13 Ghosts, everything SEEMS to move around on you.

What really bothers me is this is not version one. It is a great idea gone horribly implemented.
