I am currently getting an error on deserialization of XML by .NET that was serialized by the same .NET:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Doceus.Console

Time:  1:49:44 PM

Description: Unable to load Tasks.config: There is an

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

If .NET wrote out the ticks, shouldn't it be able to consume the same ticks?

Any ideas?

I'll only mention the following /. article because I find spelunking interesting. Well, that and I have a feeling that it's open to certain Bull jokes.

If you have time to read the /. article or the link they provide, then you could always just glance at the link to the map that they provide.

Mark Polydoris just moved to San Diego and already has a new band, Duck Duck Cheetah. One of the three tracks they've posted, There & Back Again, is definitely worth a listen -- sounds like Ben Folds meets Hoobastank. Oddly enough, I don't really like either of those bands but the song is great. Anyone in San Diego on October 26 can see them at Blind Melon's. Not sure how that show will be since they're a two man set, so they will probably be w/o a guitarist & drummer... but perhaps Mark can explain.

“Here’s what would be good for the American economy — to outsource George W. Bush.”
Umm, I know it was just a silly "zinger" that Edwards was using to milk some applause, but at face value, isn't that just a completely idiotic statement? I mean, if we outsource the presidency, where should it go -- India? South America? Maybe to a sweatshop in southeast Asia?

When your brother calls and says that he’s working all the time at the office and still can’t get ahead — you tell him: Cheney is going to crush this fluffball in the VP debate.

The recent flash in the pan reality ripoff show is "The Benefactor." Billionaire Owner of the Dallas Mavericks who made his fortune through the sale of Broadcast.com during the hight of the .com boom is giving away $1 million dollars to the person who can kiss his ass the most without looking like they are kissing his ass. I admire Cuban for his business sense and would love to someday make billions and buy a baseball team, but I felt like his show is well below him, until I realized that this is the same dude who is ejected from basketball games due to being a heckler. Anyhow, every time I've seen him, and especially now on his show, I think he looks like a totally weird cross between Elliott and Frankenstein. Look at my photo evidence below and see what I mean:

Well kids, I'm staying home November 2, 'cause the world already voted in America's presidential election and Kerry won 30 of 35 countries (30 to 3, actually, with 2 undecided). I'm not sure how many electoral votes that adds up to, but even if Bush were to win the US, he'd still be down by 26 countries.

*groan*... Paris Hilton has just come out with a new line of jewelry.

So the recipe for fame & fortune in Crapland is:

1. "Accidentally" feature yourself in an online porno
2. Alert the papers to this "scandalous" video and create some hype
3. Star in a pointless reality show about how out of touch with "simple" America you are.
4. Present an award at Nickelodeon's teen choice awards, because little girls should look up to you.
5. Cash in on your newfound fame with a line of you-related products.
6. (still pending) Have cr-azy marital woes or drug problems to reclaim the headlines after your 15 minutes are up.
7. Lather & repeat.

Rolling Stone is running an article that suggests Cheney is not only incompetent, deceitful and callow, but is also a curse on each of the presidents he has worked for. Read it here

Despite the article's partisan bitterness, I was curious and starting reading it. That is, until I reached this line:

"Ford, like Bush later, hadn't been elected president."

Ugh...

Are any opinion journalists in this country familiar with Presidential politics prior to 1960???

Bush was elected president by the electoral college in 2000 and the Supreme Court upheld the Florida constitution, deciding 5-4 that Florida must certify their ballots by the constitution's imposed deadline. Admittedly, 5-4 is a very close vote, but Roe v. Wade was recently upheld by a 5-4 vote, too, and most consider that result valid. And even had the Bush v. Gore decision gone the other way, The Miami Herald & others have done numerous recounts and found that Bush did win Florida in every realistic scenario. In fact, he won by even more votes than the final 537 if Florida had simply done what Gore asked.

What irks me about these "Bush stole the election" comments is that they lack historical context -- the 2000 election is a far cry from several far, far sketchier elections. Andrew Jackson won the plurality of votes over John Quincy Adams in 1824, but Adams was voted in by Congress. Benjamin Harrison lost the popular vote by 3% to Grover Cleveland in 1876 but won the electoral college decisively. And don't even get me started on Rutheford B. Hayes...

Maybe the electoral college needs reform, but Bush played by the law and won legitimately. DEAL WITH IT.

.NET DoPostBack from .NET
[reply]   [11 comments]

09/07/04 11:08 AM EST
posted by alex email

The .NET Framework builds a __doPostBack JavaScript event for the firing of an AutoPostBack. Within this postback, there is a call to theform.submit() that does the form submission. On my form when the page is submitted it is supposed to take some info from a div and then write that info into a hidden form variable for use in the form's submission. The problem that I am having is that if I have an item in the OnSubmit of the Form (using the page.RegisterOnSubmitStatement() method in .NET) it will not fire on the AutoPostBack of the page when something forces it, and I do not have access to the data that should be in the hidden form field. So I put the same logic in an onload event that binds the javascript method to the onsubmit of the form as follows:

var theform;
if (window.navigator.appName.toLowerCase().indexOf("microsoft") > -1) {
theform = document.__aspnetForm;
}else {
theform = document.forms["__aspnetForm"];
}
theform.onsubmit = getRichText;

But this also fails to fire when the Submit method is called.

I added the call to the window.unload() of the page and that gets it to fire, but I think it is too late and the form data has already been submitted. How can I get this to call whenever the form is submitted regardless of who initiates the submission?
