Because no one demanded it, I finally completed the Bull Of The Day "Rejects" section. It's full of Bull drawings that were either too stupid, too offensive, too bizarre or simply not funny. My personal favorites are Dead Bull & a dong-free Tinkerbull. If anything, you'll scratch your head in wonder that some of these were cut while, despite the odds, Desert Island Bull & Walrus Bull were approved.
Also, since the functionality is 90% complete, I'll soon be adding a "Details" view for Bull Of The Day drawings that happen to have a giant version of the image along w/ the standard front page version (Back to the Future Bull, for instance). Some cartoons are so detailed that the little area on the front page just doesn't do them justice & I was compelled to upload a bigger version. |

Perhaps Jerry even has his copy already:
A complete delight for fans of psychotronic cinema and the Saturday-afternoon creature feature. Writer-director Larry Blamire has distilled every clich of the drive-in movie era of low-budget horror and put it into The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, 90 minutes of pitch-perfect spoofing. The dialogue is marvelously insipid, and the music (taken from a stock music library) cuts in and out of the action with breathtaking suddenness. It was even shot in Bronson Canyon, location of many a cheap B-picture (one knock: the black-and-white image, shot on video, wears the eye out after a while). Aliens from Mars crash-land, setting loose a mutant, while a mad scientist re-awakens a talking skeleton that could hold the key to world domination. And don't forget Animala, a half-woman, half-animal beatnik! Rowwwr! Blamire allows it all to run on too long, yet hardcore fans of this movie world will be hard-pressed to complain.

This thing rocks!!!
This new remote just came out, and a bit pricey at $999.99, but it appears far better than the color pronto for the same price. The best part is the expanded interface, better hard buttons, and above all else, it is RF and IR!!! An RF remote of this caliber is LOOOOOONG overdue. I think it is a little much now, but very soon, oh yes, very sooooooooon under-taker, we shall have our reveeeeeeeennnnnngggggeeee against the Ultimate Warriorrrrrrr!!!!!!
***Update***
Two other things,
1. It imports existing CCF files, so Pronto stuff will work
2. I found it for $750 at About Gizmos.com |

Ron Reagan, Jr., from last night's Democratic Convention:
"How'd you like to have your own personal biological repair kit standing by at the hospital? Sound like magic? Welcome to the future of medicine." I'm sure the idea of a "personal biological repair kit" appeals to some, but that line in particular made me sick. Growing human body parts in a lab, putting them on ice, storing them for easy access... I always imagined these ghoulish practices taking place in a cold, mechanical future where human empathy & respect for life has completely eroded -- not within the next 50 years! Thoughts?
And how badass was Barak Obama? I must say, the man certainly exceeded my expectations. What struck me, though, were the shots of Hilary Clinton during his speech -- she had this far off, "evil genius" smile. She was literally salivating in the box seats, picturing Obama as her '08 running mate. If Hilary in '08 was a shoe-in before, that Hilary-Obama would be unstoppable... |

"TORONTO -- New York Yankees slugger Jason Giambi will receive test results Tuesday that might explain why he's been feeling so weak for months. Now, correct me if I am wrong, but perhaps its because he stopped roiding when BALCO turned his name over?
Apparently he has some intestinal parasite that is making him feel weak. Maybe he hasn't stopped roiding and that is the real cause for concern. The fact is, perhaps the parasite has been stealing all of his roids and is now a super hulking parasite with boobs and small testicles.

Who would ever wear such an offensive, horrific shirt?? Isn't Planned Parenthood's big crusade to keep abortion accessible and PRIVATE? Why would someone ever be PROUD of having a fetus ripped out of their womb?

Apparently, Wrox faltered so badly financially because they started paying out top dollar for current pop Celebrities, except from Bizarro world, to write ASP.NET books for the masses. The move backfired since most people into .NET aren't into pop culture enough to cause them to buy books solely based on the fact that they were written by Bizarro world doubles. As you can see from the image I included, this particular book was written in a collaborative effort by Bizarro "Nerdy" Justin Timberlake and Bizarro "Freshman 50" Kid Rock. Personally, I was anxiously awaiting Bizarro "Sleep Deprived" Ben Affleck's Advanced Web Services book as well as Bizarro "Social Outcast and Generally Awkward" Snoop Dogg's ASP.NET intro to E-Commerce for C#. But most of all I was waiting for Bizarro "Strung out on Red Bull" Courtney Love's Web Development Best Practices with Visual Studio.NET, I guess some things don't even change in Bizarro world. |

Kucinich to endorse Kerry... Kerry to become Zues

I think Kerry can now sleep a little easier knowing that he in fact will be the Dem candidate. I'm pretty sure he was up nights worrying about the competition within his own party, sweating it out while pounding the Midwest trails, but now that Dennis "The crazy Guy" Kucinich is ready to endorse John Kerry he will finally be able to rest a little.... and perhaps a lot more.
From the AAP -
Experts feel that with the "Kucinich Seal of Approval" John Kerry will easily crush Bush come November with roughly 99.5% of the popular vote. The backing from the Cleveland Liberal is likely to easily carry John Kerry's Presidency into his second term. In fact, the wind that a Kucinich push will blow into the Kerry Camp sails may even help to encourage a run for a third and fourth term once a Kerry proposed constitutional amendment change is approved.
The change to the constitution will allow an incumbent to seek re-election as long as he can complete an eXtreme sports challenge of Skiing, Parasail Wake boarding, Snowboarding, Ice Climbing, and Wind Surfing. The amendment is likely to face little resistance, due in no small part to the fact that Kerry is now "Surfing the Kucinich Wave."
This massive supports begs the natural question, why is Kerry the President Elect (face it, the election is now a done deal) and not Kucinich. Well, as difficult of a question as this it, the answer is actually painfully obvious. Dennis Kucinich is simply the perfect candidate, almost too perfect. The black hole of power that would be left upon his departure from The White House would be eerily similar to the black hole left in Iraq once Saddam was ousted... except Saddam was bad...

Y'know the old saying that if you give in to terrorism you'll only encourage more terrorism? Well, it's time to add an asterik to that saying warning that any future terrorism might be perpetrated by f***ing morons.
From the AP:
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - A militant group said Wednesday it had taken two Kenyans, three Indians and an Egyptian hostage and would behead them if their countries did not announce their readiness to withdraw their troops from Iraq immediately.
None of those countries are part of the 160,000-member U.S.-led coalition force in the country. So how does this particular hostage scare end -- with the sheepish release of the 6 prisoners? Or maybe Egypt, Kenya & India should send in a token troop and then ask him to leave? |

For those of you wishing to make your ASP.NET Applications 508 Compliance, or just wanted to have a more user friendly form with the use of Label tags with items other than Radio Buttons and Check Boxes, look no further.
One of the biggest drives of the applications I build for work is that based on a Government initiative, they must be 508 Compliant. This means that all Text that describes a forum element must be contained within a <label for="IDofFormElement"> tag. This is pretty easy right, well, if you use a page template the way I do, the template itself has a body control that all items within a page get added to, as a result all of my page's control's ids get prepended with _ctl0_ whatever... This made manual for attributes in the label tags difficult. Add to that, user controls with form elements inside of them with text in the calling page needing a label tag, you get the picture. Well, I requested and isntalled the Framework 1.1 June 2003 Hotfix Rollup. This hotfix includes a patch to help with the accessibility of Data Grids for 508 compliance, but something it also has but isn't mentioned often is the support for a new attribute on the ASP:Label tag.
Once you install this hotfix rollup, any text that needs to point to a form element just needs to be surrounded by an ASP:Label tag. So for example, just do
<asp:label runat="server" id="FirstnameLabel" AssociatedControlId="FirstName">First Name*:</asp:label>
will render as something like
<label for="_ctl0_FirstName">First Name*:</label>
For my example of a form element within a user control. Lets say your user control's ID is StartDate and your nested control ID within the user control is InputTextField. Then you would reference if from your HTML as
<asp:label runat="server" id="StartDateLabel" AssociatedControlId="StartDate:InputTextField">Start Date:</asp:label>
and that will render as
<label for="_ctl0_StartDate_InputTextField">Start Date*:</label>
So now even with .NET, there is no excuse not to make all of your apps accessible. |

ActiveDirectory Query with ASP.NET
[reply]

Several weeks ago I posted a message regarding querying the AD server for various information. What I wrote was a console app that worked well as long as it was running under an account that had AD Auth rights, that is pretty straight forward.
So I wrote a class that I could easily use from other applications and just recently created an ASP.NET app to use it. I configured the IIS virtual directory to run under a service domain account that has access to AD and ran the code. I was surprised by the results. It only returned partial AD info, Firstname, Lastname, username, etc. This was good but many of the items I wanted to use were returned as items but listed " System.NotImplementedException: Handling of this ADSVALUE type is not yet implemented (type = 0xb)" as the value.
After speaking with Jerry, another guy I work with, and poking around on a few forum posts (this one provided a pretty thorough writeup, I will spare you the copy and paste in pretending I came up with it), I generated a Strong Name key, added a few lines to my assembly to grant the necessary permissions, and added it to the server's GAC and low and behold, it returns the full and correct value. Once I did it, it all makes perfect sense. While IIS was using a service account with necessary access privileges, since as Jerry pointed out "ASP.NET's impersonation privileges are Shallow", the application must be running in a fully trusted state as defined by an administrator or someone physically running the application on the machine (which is why the console app worked fine even on the server), otherwise access to some information would be limited. So hope this helps someone at some point, and also thanks for your help Jerry. |

I think we are all familiar with the CF Scheduler and it's ups and downs, but at least CF provides direction for the proper way to automate things.
ASP.NET seems to lack any direction in scheduling regularly occurring tasks. Should my ASP.NET website spawn threads for these tasks? Should I use the "Scheduled Tasks" control panel? Or should I use AT? Or roll-my-own windows service? Or continue to use CF's scheduler?
And, notably absent from these options is use the MS Application Block, because there isn't one... |

Am I the only one confused by Senator Kuehl's comments? «Democrats said Schwarzenegger's remarks were insulting to women and gays and distracted from budget negotiations. State Sen. Sheila Kuehl said the governor had resorted to "blatant homophobia."» [ Schwarzenegger Assails Opponents ] I think she misses the point that women aren't girls, they are grown-up, something the women's lib. movement has been trying to get across for a while now, and as for gay men, they are even less likely to be mistaken for girls. I kinda thought that "girlie" men were ones that were like a "girl", small and weak, and not like "women and gays". Not to mention the fact that I know many women who aren't gay, and therefore the comments aren't necessarily "homophobic". I'm certainly surprised that she didn't throw in a "Arnie is a Nazi" comment, just for good measure. |

NPR Commentator Alain de Botton explores the darker side of a western ideal: meritocracy.
The feature speaks for itself (literally, since it's a sound clip), but here are a few highlights of the points he raises in discussing the darker side of our American Dream:
"Low status comes to be seen not only as regrettable, but deserved."
There is this perception that "those who fail have only themselves to blame... after all, to fail in a land of plenty is infinitely more shameful than to fail in a corrupt and caste-like society." |

I'd heard whispers about a new documentary that takes on Michael Moore and just stumbled onto its website, Michael Moore Hates America. The trailers are available here.
The newest trailer is classic, and I must say that seeing Michael Moore weaseling out of granting this filmmaker an interview makes me smile.
So Michael Moore, the man who went into Charlton Heston's home and harassed the man with a picture of a dead child can't give another documentarian 45 minutes of his time? Heston clearly knew that Moore was out to antagonize him and invited the man into his home... but Moore won't even talk to this guy?? What a #$#$head... |

Well, Kerry chose his VP today, and he ended up choosing who I have been saying is his #3 choice for the better part of the last few months. The #1 and #2 was more of a pipe dream for him but were his best chances for getting elected.
#1 choice - McCain, a bipartisan ticket would have won the election for Kerry, hands down. Even the most staunch republicans are tiring of Bush's religiously motivated agenda, his spending, and the half truths and misdirection that many feel regarding the war in Iraq. It isn't about right or wrong anymore, it is about how it was established. And McCain was the ticket to allow those disillusioned republicans to vote democrat with a clear conscience.
#2 choice - Hillary Clinton, what better way than to have the likely 2008 Democratic candidate and many people's favorite as the first female president get her feet wet as 2nd in command. Most feel it would have been a sure thing with Clinton by Kerry's side. Get elected and then become president in 2012, don't get elected and then run against a non-incumbent in 2008, win win for dems. To me the lack of Clinton on the ticket in '04 means that she is expecting to be running in '08 and not in '12.
#3 choice - Edwards, the man who should have been given the dem nod for the white house as he is easily the most electable. He had a chance of getting the same swing votes as in my first scenario, if he were running for pres. After the likely candidate of Dean went down screaming, the dems decided they needed someone who was very liberal and in stepped Kerry, too bad for Edwards, he is both moderately liberal and electable, but it may be too little too late and too low of power for Edwards to really make a difference in the minds of the moderate conservatives who are begging for a changing of the guard without turning the US into France.
So basically I feel Kerry's choice gives him the best chance with what he has to work with, but there are two very obvious choices that are not really options. But the way I look at it, Kerry's choice for VP doesn't in any way hurt him, may even slightly help him, whereas Cheney going in with Bush does a whole lot more to hurt his bid for a second term. I think he would be best served to blame Cheney's bad ticker, give him the boot, and then bring Giuliani along for the ride, talk about electable.
